Breaking Toxic Relationship Patterns | Online Therapy in Canada

Do you find yourself overgiving, emotionally exhausted, or repeatedly drawn to emotionally unavailable relationships?

Toxic relationship patterns are often rooted in deeper attachment wounds and early relational experiences. Therapy can help you understand these patterns, rebuild boundaries, and create healthier, more secure relationships with yourself and others.

Why We Repeat Toxic Relationship Patterns

Many toxic relationship patterns are not conscious choices. They are often shaped by early attachment experiences, emotional neglect, inconsistent love, criticism, or relationships where your emotional needs were not fully seen or validated.

Over time, the nervous system can begin to associate unpredictability, emotional unavailability, or over-functioning with connection and love. This can lead to patterns such as:

People-pleasing or overgiving

Difficulty setting boundaries

Fear of abandonment or rejection

Staying in relationships that feel emotionally draining

Feeling responsible for other people’s emotions

Confusing intensity with connection

With therapy, you can begin to understand these patterns, reconnect with your sense of self, and build healthier, more secure relationships; both with yourself and others.

How Therapy Can Help

Therapy can help you begin recognizing the deeper emotional patterns that shape your relationships, boundaries, and sense of self-worth. Together, we explore the roots of these dynamics with compassion rather than judgment.

Through therapy, you can begin to:

Develop healthier boundaries

Build emotional awareness and self-trust

Understand attachment wounds and relationship patterns

Reduce people-pleasing and over-functioning

Create more secure and fulfilling relationships

What Life Can Look Like After Healing

Healing toxic relationship patterns can help you feel more emotionally grounded, secure, and connected within yourself and your relationships. Over time, many clients begin to experience:

🌱 Greater emotional balance and self-trust — no longer feeling like you’re constantly overgiving or emotionally depleted.

💞 Healthier, more reciprocal relationships — where connection no longer comes at the cost of losing yourself.

✨ Freedom from toxic cycles — including people-pleasing, perfectionism, emotional over-functioning, or repeatedly choosing emotionally unavailable partners.

🌟 Stronger self-worth and boundaries — feeling more confident expressing your needs, limits, and emotions.

🌈🌈 More calm, clarity, and emotional safety — in relationships, work, and everyday life.

Healing is not about becoming someone new — it’s about reconnecting with who you are beneath the survival patterns you had to develop.

Divya Gulati, trauma-informed therapist helping adults break toxic relationship patterns and build healthier relationships.

I’m Divya Gulati, a Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO) and Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCPA) with over 12 years of experience helping high-achieving adults heal toxic relationship patterns, attachment wounds, people-pleasing, and the emotional impact of unhealthy relational dynamics.

My own journey of navigating and breaking free from toxic relationship patterns has deeply shaped the way I work. I know what it’s like to feel unseen, dismissed, and burdened by old family dynamics and I also know that healing is possible.

In therapy, I bring a trauma-informed, attachment-based approach that blends Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), psychodynamic insights, and nervous-system regulation. Together, we’ll not only uncover the root causes of anxiety, burnout, and people-pleasing but also build lasting self-trust, emotional freedom, and healthier relationships.

If you’re ready to stop repeating the past and step into a calmer, more authentic version of yourself, I’d be honored to walk this healing journey with you.

When I am not working, I love to paint, do yoga, enjoy being in nature, spend time with family and friends, and travelling.
